The Events

Event 1 – “Dancing at the crossroads” – Saturday 18th June, 2022, 4pm (Ireland)

This event opened with a video featuring land artist Gerry Barry from Castlegregory. The artwork he created for the event had “the circle” as its central theme, which related to the set dancing event which followed it. It also incorporated sawdust, which was traditionally spread on dance floors around Ireland, along with paraffin oil, in order to make the floor slippery for dancing.

After this video, live music commenced in the event venue and a group of 8 local dancers danced all figures of the West Kerry Set interspersed with songs and traditional instrumental tunes by the legendary Séamus Begley on accordion and vocals and Matt Griffin on guitar.

Event 2 – “Ceolchoirm na Féile” – Sunday 19th June, 2022, 4pm (Ireland)

The line-up for the second event included poet Maggie Breen, 5-time World Champion dancer David Geaney and musicians Gerry O’Beirne (guitar and vocals), Teresa Horgan (flute and vocals) and Caroline Keane(concertina).
